Muscat: Halal certificates accompanying imported food consignments will not be accepted from July 1, 2027, if they are issued by certification bodies that have not been designated by Oman’s Food Safety and Quality Centre (FSQC).
In a notice to importers, the centre said businesses bringing in food products that require a halal certificate should coordinate with their suppliers and certification bodies in the country of origin. They must ensure the issuing body completes the FSQC’s designation procedures before the deadline.
Certification bodies can apply for designation or inquire about the requirements by emailing [designations@mafwr.gov.om](mailto:designations@mafwr.gov.om).
The centre said importers are responsible for checking a certification body’s designation status before entering into a contract. It will not be responsible for financial or contractual consequences arising from dealings with undesignated bodies.
